This series of pillows illustrate what happens when you continue to stuff and hold in your emotions. That there is only so much you can hold in until you explode. The purple pillow shows the emotions continuing to be stuffed in, and the pillow starting to rip and the stuffing bursting out. The blue pillow is after the explosion, the stuffing is darkened and harding up, as the pillow is healing itself, but still in pain. The lines and crackling of the fabric was achieved by batiking the cotton. I covered the entire piece of cotton in wax and then froze it. Once out of the freezer, the wax is cracked and put in a dye bath. This process was repeated to get different layers of colored cracks. Some lines were then emphasized and scares and larger cracks with both hand and machine embroidery.
