Peau de Fruit (2017)
A series of hand bags made from fruit and vegetable scraps made into a leather. This project explored making material out of food waste. Experimenting with different types of food waste and how to process it to create a "fruit leather" as an alternative to animal or plastic leather. Onions skins, lemon rind, banana peels, and other food waste were softened in hot water and the blended into a puree. The puree was then spread out on pieces on cotton and then placed in the oven on a low heat to dehydrate. Adorned with gold thread, used to stitch a diamond pattern, and a banana peel emblem to replicate luxury bag brands.
